The rapid developments on the field of technology and industry improve the living standards of people. On the other hand, increasing in population and rapid urbanization creates a natural imbalance. Because of the traditional unlimited growth and consumption patterns gave way to sustainable and balanced development models of the green economy and the policies.
Garbages are sorted by looking their types in Turkey by the companies. However, normally household doesn’t sort their garbages according to their types. Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Turkey has a fundamental National Recycling Strategy Action Plan that is considered as an important point to reach our vision of 2023. This plan aims to find solutions to recycling problems and reach sustainable and effective recycling system in Turkey. Turkey follows Europe in terms of recycling. There are some specialized companies who takes part in recycling part. There are three main steps for recycling which are collection of the waste separately by municipal administration and to separate the material according to its type and the last step is to send them to recycling company.
There are problems in terms of landfills because Turkey is Europe’s third largest producer of household and commercial waste. The biggest problem in terms of waste management in the country stems from uncovered landfills, where the garbage is simply left to rot. Uncovered landfills are the potential sources of flammable biogases, toxic waste and microbial diseases.
There are both type of people who are environment friendly and who are not. In Turkey we have lots of rubbish bin on the streets however some people are too lazy to take a few more steps and throw their garbage into the bins. However, there are many volunteer works in Turkey to make people more conscious about the environment and recycling. I am the one person who takes part in these project because I believe working with a team is more effective all the time.
If we look at the reports and news, we can easily observe that the Earth has no long life span because of the unconscious consumption and inadequate precautions to prevent the pollution. I believe that we need to put away our selfishness and think about for the next generation which will be our children or grandchildren. To make this happen we all need to work together and encourage people to be more environment friendly. I can make my dream come true thanks to World Cleanup Day and I am happy to be a part of that project.
